Dilettante Press is an independent publisher with an author-first ethos. We know everyone says that; all we can do is be transparent and live it. We exist for authors who want the credibility of a professional publishing imprint while keeping control of their work.
We are members of the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) and stand behind its Hybrid Publisher Criteria.
What we are not:
- We are not a vanity press.
- Authors keep their copyright. We don’t take your rights.
- We don’t lock you into never-ending contracts. Terms are time-limited and renew only by mutual agreement.
- We don’t charge hidden fees.
- We don’t require or pressure you to buy your own books. If you want copies for an event, you’ll get them at printer cost plus shipping, with only the card processor’s fee added. We’ll even share the printer invoice and Stripe’s fee schedule so you know it’s clean.
Where we fit:
We don’t quite match the standard hybrid model, because we don’t skim your royalties. (In one optional path, we charge a capped amount to cover account maintenance, but that’s it.) At the same time, we’re more than an assisted self-publishing service, because we manage ISBNs, metadata, and distribution under the Dilettante Press imprint. We sit in the middle — giving authors professional infrastructure without the royalty drain.
What we do:
- ISBNs & Imprint Credibility
We register ISBNs under the Dilettante Press imprint, so your book is catalogued and recognized as professionally published. - Publishing Support Services
From typesetting to copyright registration and Library of Congress submissions, we handle the technical details that make your book bookstore-ready. - Distribution Guidance
When your book goes to Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, or Lightning Source, we make sure the files, covers, and metadata meet professional standards. - Community & Resources
Authors don’t succeed alone. We’re building a community where independent writers can share resources, learn from each other, and grow together.
At Dilettante Press, our philosophy is simple: you own the words, we provide the publishing backbone.
